UKAEG and DBT have joined forces to ensure that the UK’s advertising industry stays ahead of global innovation, in preparation for continued growth. Our latest venture was a successful campaign targeting North America, showcasing UKAEG members as part of a creative hub for advertising, creativity, and innovation. At SXSW in Austin, Texas, UKAEG hosted the largest trade mission yet, featuring 93 UK advertising speakers and garnering over 10,000 attendees, contributing to a £7M increase in new business in just four days. Now, the focus is on Cannes Lions, where the UK advertising industry aims to continue its international success.
China is another great example of where our marketing drive for UK advertising pays off. Over the last two years we have hosted a virtual trade mission for companies in the UKAEG community to the Shanghai International Advertising Festival (SHIAF). The virtual trade mission included twenty new business meetings, 15 showcasing/presentation opportunities and in 2022 we also hosted an exhibition of UK Cannes Lions winning work. Our efforts in China have resulted in approx. £21.1 million of new business for some of the companies who took part in the mission.
The results noted above demonstrate the strength of UK advertising. The latest Advertising Association export research is based on data from the Office of National Statistics (ONS). The data showed that the UK exported £15bn in advertising and market research services in 2021. The figures highlighted a strong rebound from 2020 and represented a 32.5% increase in year-on-year growth – the highest seen since Credos, the advertising industry’s think tank, began tracking the industry’s export figures in 2018. The new figures brought export value back in line with the industry’s pre-COVID trajectory, making the UK second only to the USA for exports worldwide, setting the UK up perfectly as it plans for the next decade of growth.
